Prior to qualifying as a Clinical Psychologist, I spent several years overseas as part of a team working with children and families in crisis. I obtained my Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Cape Town in 2010 and have worked as a Clinical Psychologist in private practice since 2011. My experience also includes research (particularly in Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) for the Department of Psychiatry at Stellenbosch University. I use a psychodynamic theoretical stance to understand the needs and experiences of clients. However, theory is a guide, and interventions are adapted to meet the needs of the individual and may therefore include elements of other therapeutic modalities, such as cognitive behavioural strategies for symptom management. I have a special interest in Self Psychology and Relational Psychoanalysis, which offer an experience-near, empathic perspective.
